Saturday brought top notch February sailing conditions - damn near mid 50's - this is warm, not warm enough to bring my olive oil back to a liquid state - but you know, it was comfortable. The day was notable for its absence of killer whales. K and L pods had been spotted at Port Madison the day previous. So, my orca researcher friend came out with us and we waited patiently in Port Madison and anyway, nothing - just nice wind and sun - so, you know, no complaints.

christ, that looks nice.

first of all - you may know the ways of the 7 seas, but the puget sound is my house - so please respect that-
second of all - my little sail boat goes 5 mph maximum, so the chance that i will ever bother an orca, or even get within 50 yards of it - is very slight
and third of all -
yeah that's right i claim puget sound
freeny -
the hypocrisy which you just touched on is unbearable to take,
you are talking to me, a mellow guy who sails around shilshole marina while listening to folk music and drinking tea, i have never even seen an orca from my own boat - the closest i have ever gotten to harassing wildlife is throwing peanut shells at seagulls to keep them from shitting on my main sail -
meanwhile, you are a key part of the industry which is harassing them - you are the circus - in fact, as your latest orca clip shows, Linblad Industries does not give these creatures the 100 yards of protection, that has been legally provided to them.

as Jon Stewart said, you sir - are a snake oil salesman advertising your wares as vitamin tonic.
oh yeah, the gloves are off -
curran,
you are right. we should both give the orcas a rest. I have already made my commitment. I will leave the orcas alone knowing I have had TONS of great sightings around the globe. You, however, will have to keep viewing my clips. I think your idea of a truce was opportune for both of us.

a hardy crew and i just returned from the san juans, we sailed north in a small craft advisory - the photo documentation was intense, your decision to nominate me for 'most quotable blog' was a wise one, i ask for only your patience - which i know is not a limitless resource -
that said, please allow freeny and i the space we need to spar on all things orca and puget sound -
the world will only allow one omniscient 'Kevin'. It is important for us to be clear on who wears that crown.
it is this petty back and forth that fuels us and will someday, god-willing, push us to greatness -
we both know there will be an all you can eat seafood buffet in the future, the question is, as it has always been, will I be the unruly guest at freeny's banquet - or vice-versa.
that said, no - you're not a phony - you're the genuine article.
